Trip of the Month – Pembrokeshire

At GlamperRV HQ we are busy planning our trips for 2016 and Pembrokeshire has always been high on our list of places to visit for a weekend away. It’s stunning coastline, numerous traffic free cycle trails, large open sandy beaches and great local eateries to indulge in some fresh seafood are just some of our reasons to visit.

Our research has covered a wide range of ‘wild camping’ spots, traditional sites and permitted parking in some lovely looking pubs.  From our experience many pubs welcome GlamperRV for an overnight stop or two, especially if you eat in the pub and give them a ring to confirm in advance.  I think we will try out one of the Guardian’s top 10 Pembrokeshire pubs – http://www.theguardian.com/travel/2012/jul/11/top-10-pubs-pembrokeshire-wales

The Old Point House at Angle

The Old Point House is a farmhouse pub, dating from around 1500, with a fantastic setting on a headland overlooking Angle Bay. Originally a one-bar local serving the village fishermen and farmhands, this Grade II-listed building has been sympathetically extended and upgraded over the years, without losing any of its charm and character – it still has its wooden settles clustered around an ancient fireplace. Known as “the lifeboatmen’s local”, the pub has had a long association with the RNLI station a short walk around the headland along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, and its maritime links extend to the charts and old photographs which decorate the pub walls.  Angle Village, 01646 641205

Waun Wyllt, Llanelli

The Waun Wyllt is an 18th century public house and restaurant with five hard standings areas suitable for GlamperRV. Nestled in the Sylen Valley, one mile from Five Roads village square, the Waun Wyllt is also adjacent to the acclaimed Swiss Valley Cycle Route – a wonderful looking traffic free cycle route that the kids will love!

The Sloop at Porthgain
http://sloop.co.uk/

The Sloop Inn is on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path between Fishguard and St Davids and looks like a stunning location for a weekend away.

If you prefer to stay in a traditional overnight site, our favourite is the lovely family run site at Nine Wells – http://www.ninewellscamping.com/.  We are confident they will always give GlamperRV a very warm welcome!

For those who prefer wild camping there are plenty of spots dotted along the coastline (although in the summer you may be fighting with the incumbent surfer community in the best beach locations!)

Manorbier
Just above the beach at Manorbier in a narrow lane is a free car park, much used by surfers. It over-looks the beach, has a wide grass verge and places to sit. Looks lovely!

Freshwater West
Freshwater West is a beach near Castlemartin, Pembrokeshire in West Wales. It lies along the B4319 road and is part of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and there appear to be plenty of spots to park. All free.

National Trust properties
It is reported that many of the National Trust properties have large car parks and are frequently used by overnight stayers – look up Stackpole Quay, Broadhaven and Bosherton Ponds.  I think the ‘done’ thing here is to leave a donation to the National Trust when parking overnight.

If you want to base your stay alongside some of the many cycle paths around the country I would recommend you to take a look at the excellent Sustrans website to find all the traffic free cycle routes. http://www.sustrans.org.uk/ncn/map

I also came across this useful website which lists all the places you can park GlamperRV in Wales – https://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/motorhomes/articles/general/parking-your-motorhome-in-wales

Finally we thought you may also be interested in some great beaches – Cool Camping have created a really useful guide.
