Trip of the Month – Exploring France

Exploring France with GlamperRV – Disneyland and beyond!

With many potential customers enquiring about taking GlamperRV into France this summer and with plenty of personal experience of travelling through this beautiful country I thought it about time I wrote a blog on the subject.

To cover the entire country in one article would not do it justice so I have decided to focus on a few key events that may be taking you to France in 2016.

Before you cross the Channel you will experience one of the many delights of travelling with your hotel on wheels – when you get to your port or Eurotunnel terminal you no longer need to queue for facilities and accept the overinflated prices for a coffee and croissant.  You simply park up, switch on the Nespresso machine and there you go (believe me this is much to the envy of your fellow travellers!)

The first step for anyone seriously considering a trip to France is to purchase France Passion, a directory listing over 1,850 vineyards, farms and similar ‘off the beaten track’ spots which welcome motorhomes for 24hour stays thus providing a great opportunity to get away from the crowds and experience local life (and produce!) in a friendly, secure environment.

For families, France has some of the best campsites in Europe – from the larger Eurocamps and Indigo campsites to the local ‘a la ferme’ – check out Camping France to discover some idyllic locations.

If you’re thinking of visiting Disneyland Paris but are put off by the thought of the large scale resort hotels think GlamperRV.  Disneyland Paris permits motorhomes to park overnight for 30euro (or free if you have an annual pass). With GlamperRV being fully functional without an electrical hock up, it is the perfect solution for avoiding the queues and having your own space at this popular destination.

If you are in the area and fancy a trip into the centre of Paris, there is an RER stop right next to the Park entrance.  Alternatively park up in one of the beautiful towns on the outskirts of this small City and take the Metro/RER into the centre in just 20 minutes.  A stunning area is the Bois de Boulogne where the Indigo campsite comes recommended or to the south of Paris, Beau Village.

France plays host to a range of major sporting events in 2016 with the annual Tour de France and Le Mans competing with the European Championships in June to name a few.  To enjoy the country and take in some of these events, hiring GlamperRV is the perfect solution.

Drive the Tour de France route the day before the road is blocked off for the Stage and every other vehicle you will see will be a motorhome. Hiring a motorhome is simply the best way to experience the passion and excitement of the oldest race in the sport of cycling and obviously GlamperRV will give you the 5* treatment.

With the 2016 Tour starting in Mont st Michael it is only a short drive from the Brittany Ferry ports of Caen and St Malo or alternatively a 4½ hour drive from Calais which from experience is a cheaper way to reach this region.

Also in this region is the small town of Le Mans, host to the Le Mans 24 hour race and with very little local luxury accommodation on offer, parking up GlamperRV in one of the many camping areas within the circuit is the perfect solution.

Many of you will also have family and friends travelling to France during June and July to watch their team play in the 2016 European Championships.  With England playing group matches in Marseille, Lens and Saint Etienne there are some contrasting trips on offer.

For those heading south for England’s first match in Marseille it is a great opportunity to enjoy some hot Mediterranean sunshine and explore this stunning region.  Whilst the City may be quite industrial it is surrounded by some beautiful national parks such as the Camargue and Luberon.

Lens, situated only an hour from Calais, is ideal for a long weekend trip to watch England’s big game against Wales and then why not head over to the beaches of Le Touquet for a relaxing weekend.

Saint Etienne is located in the Massif Central, a less known mountain range in the South East of France and popular with the French.  A quick look on France Passion and Camping France will bring up a wide range of places to stay and sample some of the rich cuisine in this region.

Please remember to let us know at time of booking if you are planning to take GlamperRV to France so we can update our insurance and breakdown cover.
