Site spotlight – City Breaks
Believe me when I say, spring IS just around the corner. This white stuff is only meant for the mountains at this time of year so ignore it and think of the bluebells that will be adorning our woodland very soon.
You will know by now that my site spotlights tend to focus on small, rural campsites offering a plethora of outdoor activities. I believe however that when planning a spring break, it’s useful to have some city options tucked away . . . just in case that great British weather doesn’t play ball.
There are some incredible campsites close to the heart of many cities around the UK and hence this site spotlight – City Breaks. These sites are not always the most picturesque but I have chosen them for their proximity to the thrills that the City has to offer.
First up is Liverpool. A city that has long been on my wish list since going through a renaissance post 2008 when it was European Capital of Culture and this year plays host to the Eurovision Song Contest and British Open Golf. Liverpool Marina offers fully serviced overnight stays for motorhomes and is a short walk into the City Centre. It is a perfect place to stay for a day or two and explore the City.
Bath is another favourite with GlamperRV customers, creating a stop off en route to the South West or part of a circular tour including the Cotswolds and New Forest. Located on the River Avon, the Bath Marina & Caravan Park is just two miles from the city centre which makes it ideal for a stroll or cycle along the riverside into beautiful Bath. If the exercise one way has been too much then return with the park-and-ride bus whose stop is nearby. The park is nestled amid grassy banks and shady trees on one of the most treasured stretches of the River Avon
If you are heading to South Wales then do consider stopping in Cardiff. The Cardiff Caravan Park occupies an outstanding location close to city centre in an area of beautiful parkland just next to Cardiff Castle. It offers walks along the river in one direction and the spoils of the City in the other. It is on the Taff Trail which connects it with Cardiff Bay. A hugely popular site and fantastic for exploring the Welsh Capital City.
Whilst talking about regional capitals, Edinburgh also has its own Caravan Club Site just north of the City on the coast. It is a good walk into the City Centre or a bike ride for the more adventurous. During the Festival in August the City creates its very own Festival Camping to the west creating a great opportunity to link a cultural (or comedy) visit onto your GlamperRV adventure.
If you fancy a visit to the historic city of York then the Rowntree Park Caravan Club Site is located right in the City centre. You will be able to walk everywhere from this organized, popular site on the bank of the River Ouse.
These are just a handful of suggestions but hopefully gives you the feel for what is available. If its to visit a good restaurant, explore the history or indulge in culture there are many reasons why a City Centre stopover would make a great addition to your GlamperRV adventure.
