Site Spotlight – Overnight at an Airfield

If you are an aircraft enthusiast or simply looking for somewhere slightly alternative to stay overnight in your GlamperRV then our site spotlight – overnight at an airfield is just for you. There are a number of private and disused airfields around the country that will allow you to park overnight.  It certainly presents a novel view to wake up to . . .

Our tour of GlamperRV friendly airfields starts in North Lincolnshire and is found in the shape of the Happy Café at Sandtoft Airfield.  The overnight parking is right on the edge of the 900m runway however the café is only open during the day so plan ahead and look forward to a peaceful evening.

Staying in the middle of the country, the Aviator Café  in Derbyshire is well situated for a visit to the Peak District and overlooks the Airfield at Darley Moor.  The airfield offers a wide range of activities for visitors from taking a trial flight in a light aircraft to kite boarding, paragliding and microlight lessons.

If you are heading to the South West, the Davidstow Airfield near Camelford in Cornwall is worth stop.  A disused aerodrome, Davidstow is in the middle of nature with plenty of hard standing. The airfield is still used by model flyers and microlights so the recommendation is to park on the western side in sight of the lake. Don’t be surprised if you are woken by the sound of sheep which roam freely in the area.

Staying in the South West region, Branscombe Airfield Campsite sits on the edge of Branscombe Village in an area of outstanding natural beauty.  This  is a formal campsite with extra large pitches. wide open spaces and views of rolling Devon countryside with the sea in the distance.

Closer to home Popham Airfield is a Caravan & Motorhome Club CL site (members only) situated in the heart of the North Hampshire countryside.  All five grass pitches back onto woodland to the north of the airfield which is active 364 days of the year from 08:30 until 20:00 so perfect for the plane spotting enthusiast.
