We hope that you are inspired by our site spotlight – overnight at a stately home as there are some fabulous stopovers located within their grounds offering something different for an overnight stay. Some of these are permanent campsites, some pop ups during the summer months and others a pub stopover close by.
The most popular with GlamperRV customers has to be the Chatsworth House Caravan Club Site, set in the old walled garden on the picturesque Chatsworth Estate in Bakewell. Chatsworth House, home to the Duke & Duchess of Devonshire, opens its doors to visitors from March to October and in addition to the magnificent house the site offers access to the many attractions throughout the 1000-acre park laid out by Capability Brown.
Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire is another popular stately home with a structured campsite within its grounds. This regency castle is a frequent location on the silver screen, most recently the setting for Windsor Castle scenes in the Crown. It is home to the 11th Duke and Duchess of Rutland who have carefully restored the castle and grounds and repurposed a 3 acre site, the Engine Yard to celebrate local food, drink and artisan shopping with an opportunity to relax and unwind in stunning surroundings.
If you prefer a less structured campsite head west to Eastnor Castle at the foot of the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Herefordshire where you can stay in the The Eastnor Deer Park Campsite (see photo below). Open on selected dates from Easter until end of September visitors come to the Eastnor Deer Park Campsite to enjoy its beauty and tranquillity. It is a perfect site for families to relax and enjoy a quiet friendly atmosphere. For keen anglers all those staying at the campsite enjoy complimentary access to the Deer Park fishing lakes.
The widely acclaimed Holkham Hall on the north Norfolk coast opens its gates to campers during the school summer holidays through its popular Camp Elwood pop up. This camp offers a slice of retro Americana, with workshops, adventure and banging street food, cocktails and craft beer. Holkham Hall is set midst a landscape of stunning beaches, historic pinewood forests and the expansive parkland of the estate and creates a truly fabulous location for a family GlamperRV adventure.
Staying up in Norfolk, the Queen’s residence of Sandringham House has a campsite within its grounds offering visitors a wonderful opportunity to explore the expansive 600 acre country park complete with numerous walking and cycling trails. I know many GlamperRV customers have enjoyed this site whilst exploring the North Norfolk coast and also visiting Luminate Live, its winter lights festival.
This post has brought up memories of some fantastic family trips to these stately homes – most recently Chatsworth but also the fun we had at Holkham in our very first GlamperRV back in 2015.
We hope these inspire you for a different type of GlamperRV overnight stay and we look forward to hearing of your trips as you go out and explore in style.
